The “ Galle Dialogue – 2011”, the Maritime Conference organized by the Sri Lanka Navy under a directive of the Ministry of Defense and Urban Development, began today, 14th November 2001, at the picturesque Light House Hotel in Galle.

A host of scholars with proven track records in the maritime field will deliver speeches on a variety of topics concerning maritime defense and challenges in the Indian Ocean region.

The entire Dialogue will be held in two days. During the first day, Mr. Robert Scher , Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for South and Southeast Asia, Department of Defence, United States of America, will speak on “Importance of Common Strategies for Global and Regional Maritime Security” while Prof. Rohan Gunarathna , Head of International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism: Research, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is scheduled to deliver a speech on “ Maritime Terrorism: Technologies, Techniques”

Vice Admiral Ding Yiping , Deputy Commander of PLA Navy, China , will speak on “ Strengthen Naval Cooperation to Maintain Maritime Security” while Rear Admiral Khan Hasham Bin saddique , Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations ) , Pakistan Navy , will address the gathering on “ Contemporary Regional Maritime Security Challenges; Pakistan’s Perspective ” .
