Russian Navy Main HQ will move to St. Petersburg after the presidential elections. According to an informed source of Interfax , the appropriate documents enact Navy Main HQ to relocate all command agencies to St. Petersburg after March 4, 2012. Initially, the transfer was scheduled on Feb 16, although was postponed due to technical problems, said the source.
Right after the move, families of 189 officers will be provided with service accommodations including cottages. According to the source, basic phase of the transfer will finish by July 2012, and final relocation will be over till the end of the year. Command of the Navy will not be slackened during the staff move. Exact location of Navy Main HQ in St. Petersburg has not been reported so far. As was earlier said, the staff may occupy the Admiralty’s building.
Transfer of Russian Navy Main HQ to St. Petersburg has been planned for several years now. It was announced in Oct 2007 that the relocation would start in Apr 2008 and finish in 2009. Russian Navy Commander ADM V. Vysotsky declared early Apr 2008 that the move was postponed for indefinite period since the military had not settled some technical issues.
