ITS SCIROCCO Enhances EU Cooperation With Seychelles

On 16 May 2012, Italian EU NAVFOR warship ITS SCIROCCO provided a one-day training session for the Seychelles Coast Guard and on 17 May 2012 welcomed the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of Investments, Natural Resources and Industry of the Republic of Seychelles, and the Italian Consul to the Seychelles. These activities are part of the EU’s efforts to maintain effective counter-piracy cooperation with states in the region .

During the recent port visit, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists from ITS Scirocco delivered a one-day training session focused on Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) for Seychelles Coast Guard. The training was both well attended and received and provided a unique opportunity for exchange of practices.

In addition, on 17 May, ITS SCIROCCO received on board Ambassador Maurice Loustau-Lalanne, the Principal Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Peter Sinon, Secretary of Investments, Natural Resources and Industry of the Republic of Seychelles, and the Italian Consul to the Seychelles. This event provided the opportunity to highlight close coordination between the Seychelles and EU Naval Force Somalia in the fighting the scourge of piracy in the Somali Basin.
