Sailors aboard U.S. 7th Fleet flagship USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), embarked 7th Fleet staff and Marines assigned to Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team Pacific departed Fukuoka, Japan, Aug. 14.
The port visit represented an opportunity for Sailors and Marines to serve as goodwill ambassadors of the U.S., promote peace and stability in the southeast Asian-Pacific region, to demonstrate commitment to regional partnerships, and foster growing relationships.
While in Fukuoka, Sailors enjoyed playing basketball and softball during a community service event with Fukuoka Institute of Technology college students.
“We all had a lot of fun and really enjoyed spending time with the people here. I am glad I came out to this COMSERV, ” said Quartermaster Seaman Korey Booker . “ The Navy has given me these wonderful opportunities and I know I’ll never forget them.”
Some Sailors spent their time off enjoying the city by going to restaurants and visiting local attractions.
“I went out to eat at a fantastic ramen restaurant. It was amazing,” said Yeoman 3rd Class Brittnea Noe . “I like the environment here as well; they maintain the Japanese culture while keeping it similar to our American environment.”
Blue Ridge has been forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, for nearly 33 years. As the flagship for Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, Blue Ridge is instrumental in forging partnerships in the region while leading the fleet with its advanced shipboard communications systems.
