Colonna’s Shipyard Inc., a full service ship repair facility located in the Port of Norfolk, Virginia, is being awarded a $17.9 million fixed-price contract by US Navy for a dry-docking phased maintenance availability on the USS Monsoon (PC 4) for the accomplishment of miscellaneous structural, electrical and mechanical repairs, including dry-docking.
This contract contains options, which if exercised, would bring the contract value to $18.6 million.Work will be performed in Norfolk, Va., and is expected to be completed by February 2014.
This contract was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce Online website with two offers received, Naval Ship Support Activity, being the contracting activity.
Colonna’s lifts over 225 vessels a year on average and is one of the leading propulsion conversion yards on the East Coast.
USS Monsoon is the fourth CYCLONE – class patrol coastal boat. From November 2001 on, the CYCLONE – class ships were temporarily operated under US Coast Guard control for homeland defense. On October 8, 2004, the Monsoon was decommissioned and officially transferred to the US Coast Guard where she was recommissioned as USCGC Monsoon (WPC 4). Transfered back to the Navy and recommissioned as USS Monsoon on August 22, 2008, the Monsoon is presently homeported in Little Creek, Va.
