East Coast Repair and Fabrication Wins USS Hurricane Dry-Docking Deal

East Coast Repair and Fabrication L.L.C., has received a $13.5 million fixed-price contract for a dry-docking phased maintenance availability on the USS Hurricane (PC 3) for the accomplishment of miscellaneous structural, electrical and mechanical repairs, including dry-docking, the US Department of Defence announced.

This contract contains options, which if exercised, would bring the contract value to $14,239,409.

Homeported at Little Creek, Va. USS Hurricane  is the third Cyclone – class patrol coastal boat. Built by Bollinger Machine Shop & Shipyard, she covers 170 feet in length and 7.5 feet in draft and is propelled by four Paxman diesels. She can develop a speed of 35 knots, accommodating four officers, twenty four enlisted and eight of Special Forces personnel.

From November 2001 on, the Cyclone – class ships were temporarily operated under US Coast Guard control for homeland defense.

  • Beam: 25 feet (7.6 meters)
  • Displacement: approx. 331 tons
  • Armament: 2 25mm Mk-38 machine guns; 2 .50 cal machine guns; 2 Mk-19 automatic grenade launchers; 6 stinger missiles

Work will be performed in Portsmouth, Va., and is expected to be completed by January 2014.  The Naval Ship Support Activity is the contracting activity.
