FESRC, last weekend, completed the repairs of guided missile cruiser Varyag, the flagship of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy. The work was performed by one of FESRC’s subsidiary, the Dalzavod Ship Repair Center.
According to Captain Alexander Potapov, the cruiser underwent dry-docking repairs, armament equipment repairs, and servicing in the allotted time; everything was performed on schedule and to a high standard. The Pacific Fleet command plans to dispatch the guided missile cruiser Varyag to the remote Pacific Ocean in the next few months of 2013 during which time she will visit a few foreign ports of the Asia Pacific countries.
The guards cruiser Varyag is a Soviet and Russian guided missile cruiser, the third ship of the 1164 Atlant design, and the flagship of the Russian Pacific Fleet. The cruiser was built by the Nikolev shipyard, named after 61 Communards. Varyag’s keel was laid in 1979, and she was launched in 1983 and commissioned on October 16, 1989. The cruiser was christened Chervona Ukraina. Her name was changed to Varyag in 1996. Varyag has been the flagship of the Russian Pacific Fleet since 2002.
