Northrop Grumman Corporation, based in Annapolis, Md, has received a $45.9 million contract for production of proof of manufacturing/first articles, functional replacement level components of the MK 54 mod 0 array kits, engineering service hours and hardware repair support.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will also ensure test equipment, additional spares and production support material, along with warranty options.

The MK 54 is the only lightweight torpedo capable of striking any target in the world’s oceans, regardless of water depth.

The MK 54 can be deployed from a surface ship, helicopter or fixed wing aircraft to track, classify and attack underwater targets. It uses sophisticated processing algorithms to analyze the information, edit out false targets or countermeasures, and then pursue identified threats.

Northrop Grumman will perform the work in Lititz, Pa. (40.5 %); Annapolis, Md. (30.9 %); and Santa Barbara, Calif. (28.6 %), which is expected to be completed by July 2016.

Northrop Grumman is a leading global security company providing innovative systems, products and solutions in unmanned systems, cyber, C4ISR, and logistics and modernization to government and commercial customers worldwide.
