Commander of Sri Lanka Navy Declares Open Renovated Eastern Naval Command Gymnasium

Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage declared open the renovated Eastern Naval Command Gymnasium at SLNS Tissa on 16 th August 2013. Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Rohan Amarasinghe, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Srima Colombage and senior naval officers were also present on the occasion.

The gymnasium is now equipped with modern sports equipment and improved infrastructure facilities for the conduct of multi-sport events. The Commander also declared open a tailor shop and a beauty salon at SLN Dockyard and laid the foundation stone for a Navy Seva Vanitha Welfare shop building at SLNS Tissa.

To coincide with the day’s events, President of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit declared open the three-storied Women Sailors’ Mess at SLNS Tissa. It has been constructed to provide better accommodation facilities for women sailors. The spacious facility, which can house 300 inmates, is equipped with all amenities and is located at a convenient location for them to return to after duties.
