The Royal Australian Navy welcomed Malaysian warship, KD Jebat into Darwin today, as the Navy’s International Fleet Review draws closer.
KD Jebat is in Darwin for an operational port visit, before she will proceed towards Sydney to participate in the International Fleet Review during 3-11 October.
KD Jebat is one of over twenty international warships that will join Royal Australian Navy ships and local and international tall ships in the Navy’s most significant commemorative event in 100 years.
“The International Fleet Review 2013 marks the centenary of the Royal Australian Navy’s fleet arrival into Sydney Harbour on 4 October 1913,” said Captain Nick Bramwell, Director International Fleet Review.
“It’s a huge event for our Navy, and we’re delighted to be able to share our commemorations with so many international partners,” Captain Bramwell said.
KD Jebat is one of the warships open to members of the public in Sydney during IFR Warship Open Days on 6 and 7 October, however there will be no opportunity for the public to visit the ship while she is in Darwin.
Over 40 warships and 16 tall ships from 20 nations, and 8000 naval personnel will take part in the International Fleet Review to celebrate this historic Navy event which is being staged in partnership with the NSW State Government and City of Sydney Council.
A spectacular program of naval events will include a ceremonial fleet entry and review of all the warships in Sydney Harbour, a fireworks and lightshow for the people of Sydney, military band concerts, and a street march of over 4000 sailors.
The largest maritime tradeshow, Pacific 2013, and the RAN Sea Power Conference will also coincide with the IFR period in Sydney.
