The German Navy ship, FGS Hessen, which is currently part of European Naval Force Operation Atalanta, assisted a Yemeni dhow off the coast of Yemen.
The dhow was drifting for five days due to some technical malfunctions.
The Japanese Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft (MPRA) alerted FGS Hessen about the stranded dhow.
Before reaching the dhow, FGS Hessen dispatched its Lynx helicopter to investigate en route and reached the dhow within a few hours.
FGS Hessen, a multi-purpose German Navy frigate, joined European Naval Force Operation Atalanta on December 3rd 2013. The ship is patrolling the seas off the Somali coast.
