The Italian naval ship, ITS Cavour, arrived at the Mombasa port in Kenya last Friday, Standard Digital reports.

ITS Cavour is an aircraft carrier and the newest flagship of the Italian Navy. The ship is capable of carrying heavy vehicles as well as performing helicopter air operations and command and control operations.

She is 244 meters long and has a displacement of 27.900 tons but can reach more than 30.000 tons full loaded.

Rear Admiral Paolo Treau, Commander of the 30th naval group, said that the mission to Mombasa and Africa is both a daring and ambitious initiative.

The ship welcomed Kenya Navy senior and junior officers, officials from the Mombasa country and selected schools, among the invited guests.
