The Crew of the LÉ Niamh responded to distress call in Cork Harbour on July 3 and rescued two men from an upturned pleasure craft.
The LÉ Niamh, which was on patrol in the area, received a distress call shortly after 6pm and immediately dispatched a rigid inflatable boat (RIB) to the scene on the east of the harbour near East Ferry.
On arrival at the scene they recovered two persons who were situated on the upturned hull of their pleasure craft. The Crosshaven Lifeboat took the vessel under tow and the sailors were transported to the medical centre in the Naval Base, Haulbowline by RIB where they were examined by the duty paramedic.
As they were found to be medically fine, they were then transported by the Naval Service to Ringaskiddy. The two men, who are believed in their fifties, are from the Cork area and were reported to be in good spirits despite the incident.
