Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) General Sir Adrian Bradshaw reinforced NATO’s commitment to collective defence with a visit to Bucharest, Romania on Thursday, 24 July. In light of the Ukraine Crisis, NATO continues to implement a series of comprehensive assurance measures on land, sea and air in which Romania has played a vital role.
“Romania has supported NATO AWACs aircraft conducting surveillance orbits over Eastern Europe and has contributed professional and interoperable land forces to recent exercises,’’ said General Bradshaw. “NATO, and indeed many nations outside of NATO continue to be very concerned by the crisis in Ukraine, and it is essential to maintain our force readiness in order to provide a balanced response,” he said.
During the visit, General Bradshaw met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Romanian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Stefan Danila, and discussed further security and stability measures.
“Romania is a highly valued member of NATO whose military contribution is widely recognized,’’ said DSACEUR. “In particular, Romania’s long standing participation to the ISAF mission has been commendable.’’
“I have also been very impressed on this visit with our discussions and the mutual aims of continuing support to this crisis and other areas of interest,’’ he added.
In addition to Romania’s support to the Air Surveillance Mission, the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 has been operating in the Black Sea and received extensive support from the Romanian port of Constanta.
