Chief of Naval Personnel, Vice Adm. William “Bill” Moran arrived on the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) for a visit and all-hands call, Aug. 9.
During his visit, Moran toured various spaces of the ship, spoke with Roosevelt’s leadership and addressed the crew.
The ship tour consisted of a visit, board, search and seizure demonstration, and visits with bridge watch standers, combat information center, and engineering spaces.
After the tour, Moran addressed the crew on the mess decks. Moran answered questions about policy, manning, and took time to listen to the concerns of the Sailors on board.
“An integral part of keeping both morale and mission readiness at all time highs is the ability for the deck plate Sailors to be heard,” said Cmdr. Meger Chappell, Roosevelt’s executive officer. “The crew benefits from visits like this and always looks forward to them.”
Roosevelt is deployed as part of the George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
