Anti-submarine vessel Severomorsk, of the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet, recently escorted the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Salamet through the Gulf of Aden.

The vessels traveled along the corridor from the Arabian Sea, through the Gulf and to the Red Sea, covering more than 1,000 nautical miles.

Prior to the escort mission, Severomorsk met with the Japanese destroyer Herusame in the Arabian Sea. Severomorsk held a briefing during which sailors discussed and shared their experiences in security and protection of shipping vessels.

Severomorsk started its journey on November 20, 2014, when it departed its home base. Until now, the vessel has traveled about 10 thousand nautical miles and visited the Port of Salalah in Oman.
