The guided missile frigate USS Rodney M Davis (FFG 60) concluded 28 years of naval service during a decommissioning ceremony on Jan. 23 at Naval Station Everett, Washington.
USS Rodney M Davis was assigned to Destroyer Squadron Nine and was commanded by Cmdr. Todd Whalen. The ship returned in December from her final deployment to the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans where she supported theater security cooperation in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
The vessel is the 54th Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate. She was commissioned on May 9, 1987 at Naval Station Long Beach. The ship is named after Sergeant Rodney Maxwell Davis, USMC, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for sacrificing his life for his fellow Marines on the field of battle in Vietnam.
USS Rodney M Davis will be transferred to Naval Inactive Ships on March 31.
