United States Navy aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson accompanied by guided missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill and guided missile destroyer USS Gridley arrived at Fremantle Port on Sunday April 26 on a scheduled visit.

The ships, carrying more than 5000 sailors, have recently completed operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, which includes the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman and Red Sea.

Captain Karl Thomas, commanding officer of USS Carl Vinson, said:

For many members of the crew, this will be their first time visiting Fremantle and Perth.

The ships are transiting through the region en route to their homeport of San Diego.
