The Sri Lanka Navy facilitated to handover 16 Indian fishing trawlers which had been released by the court, and remaining in Sri Lanka until the owners of the trawlers make arrangements to take them back to India.

Fifteen trawlers located in Karainagar and one located in Thalaimannar, were handed over to Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Ameya’ at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) north of Delft on April 24, 2015.

Indian personnel, including repair teams, arrived in Sri Lanka onboard 18 trawlers on April 22 to salvage the released trawlers.

The Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Coast Guard craft accompanied the Indian trawlers whilst on passage to ensure their safety.
