LÉ EITHNE Rescues Over 350 Migrants

Irish Navy’s LÉ EITHNE successfully located and rescued 367 migrants on a wooden barge, 50 kilometres north-west of Tripoli, Libya. Irish Navy’s LÉ EITHNE successfully located and rescued 367 migrants on a wooden barge, 50 kilometres north-west of Tripoli, Libya.

Conditions at the time were choppy with the operation commencing at 7.25 am during a south easterly 1 metre high swell. All migrants were successfully taken on board by 10.09 am.

There are now 278 male, 80 female and 9 children on board the LÉ EITHNE where they will receive medical screening, food and water.

The LÉ EITHNE is awaiting direction from the Italian Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Centre for next tasking.
