Italian Navy’s vessel ITS Grecale returned home to La Spezia after spending five months employed in Operation Atalanta.
The vessel conducted anti-piracy mission and maintained security of the trade routes in the Indian Ocean and off the Horn of Africa.
Operation Atalanta, also known as European Union Naval Force Somalia, is a current military operation that is the first undertaken by the European Union Naval Force. The operational headquarters is located at Northwood Headquarters in the UK.
