Spanish Navy’s offshore patrol vessel (OPV) Alborán, has just returned to her home port in Cartagena after participating in the fisheries surveillance campaign in national and international waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

An inspector from the Fisheries Secretariat embarked to monitor, provide support and verify the fulfilment of the fishing regulations in force. Special attention was paid to third nation trawlers fishing in Spanish territorial waters.

In this fishing ground off the Galician coast, many national fishing boats operate with traditional gear (trolling and bait boats) as well as EU trawlers using bottom trawls.

During the 25-day campaign the ship also provided support to different assistance requests: mechanical, medical, etc.
