The U.S. Navy participated in the regularly-scheduled exercise, Reliant Mermaid 2015, from Aug. 9-13, in the Mediterranean Sea with their partner and ally, Israel.
The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78), along with maritime forces from Israel participated.
Reliant Mermaid is a regularly scheduled exercise and is not associated with or a reaction to any real world events.
The exercise is designed to increase interoperability and helps promote maritime safety and security in the region.
