The U.S. Navy announced the homeport change of three Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers yesterday. USS Gridley (DDG 101), USS Sampson (DDG 102), and USS Kidd (DDG 100) will relocate from San Diego to Naval Station Everett, Wash., in 2016.
USS Gridley (DDG 101), USS Sampson (DDG 102), and USS Kidd (DDG 100) provide a significant multi-mission warfighting capability to the Pacific Fleet. They will contribute combat capable rotational presence and represent the long range U.S. commitment to the security and stability of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers are capable of sustained combat operations supporting forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence. Additionally, they perform key roles in support of carrier strike groups, expeditionary strike groups, and surface action groups.
Each ship contains a crew of approximately 250 who are trained to execute multi-mission tasking to include air, surface, undersea, space, and cyber warfare.
