Spanish Navy’s tall ship ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ has set sail from Cádiz to start her 87th midshipmen training cruise.
The farewell ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral General Jaime Muñoz-Delgado, accompanied by other civilian and military authorities.
Commanded by Captain Victoriano Gilabert, ‘Juan Sebastián de Elcano’ is crewed by 23 officers, 23 non-commissioned officers, 140 leading seamen and ratings, and 4 civilians.
The purpose of the Training Cruise is to contribute to the nautical, military, social and human instruction of 80 midshipmen from the 417th Spanish Navy graduation class, the 147th Marine Corps graduation class and the 91st Quartermaster Corps graduation class.
The ship also actively supports the State foreign policy visiting different ports during her training cruise.
According to the Spanish Navy, the ship is scheduled to call at the following national and international ports: Tenerife, Fortaleza (Brazil), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Havana (Cuba), Miami and Baltimore (USA) with a planned arrival at Marin by early July.
