Spanish Navy’s auxiliary oiler and replenishment ship (AOR) Cantabria arrived at her home port in Ferrol, Spain on April 1 after after spending two months integrated into the Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG-1).
The ship operated in North Sea waters under command of Spanish Navy Rear-admiral José E. Delgado who directed the group from the Spanish frigate Álvaro de Bazán. The A-15 joined NATO’s Maritime Group on January 17 along with the Royal Navy frigate HMS Iron Duke and Spanish F-100 frigate Álvaro de Bazán.
The Spanish Navy said the Cantabria carried out 25 replenishment at sea (RAS) maneuvers with naval units from eight different nations and supplied more than 3,000 tons of fuel. Cantabria took part in exercises NOR TG/DG and Cold Response and visited a number of European ports.
Commanded by Cdr. Santiago de Colsa, the 2010-commissioned Cantabria is the second largest ship in the Spanish Navy and has a complement of 175 people.
