The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded Northrop Grumman Systems a $103,423,433 contract modification for the counter IED program.
Under the latest modification, Northrop Grumman is to start low-rate production of Joint Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) Electronic Warfare, Joint Crew (JCREW) Increment One Build One (I1B1) systems in support of the Expeditionary Warfare Program Office.

The JCREW I1B1 system is a jammer that defeats devices used to trigger improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
NAVSEA awarded Northrop Grumman the JCREW I1B1 development contract in December 2009 and exercised the contract option in January 2013 to complete development of JCREW I1B1.
In October 2015, the U.S. Navy awarded Northrop Grumman a $95 million contract for low-rate initial production of the Joint Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) Electronic Warfare (JCREW) I1B1. The contract came after the navy notified the company that the JCREW I1B1 system had completed initial operational test and evaluation.
The contract, awarded by NAVSEA, included options which, if exercised, would bring the total value to $213 million.
CREW systems provide combat troops protection against RCIEDs. CREW systems are designed to provide protection for foot soldiers, vehicles, and permanent structures. The Joint CREW I1B1 is the first generation system that develops a common open architecture across all three capabilities and provides protection for worldwide military operations.
The majority of production work will be performed in San Diego and is expected to be complete by September 28, 2018.
