The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems Norfolk Ship Repair a $42 million contract for repair and alteration works on the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Vicksburg (CG 69).
Under the contract, BAE Systems will perform what is termed as a special selected restricted availability (SSRA).
An SSRA is scheduled by the CNO for short repairs required to sustain the material condition of the ship between overhauls, particularly those ships on extended operating cycles.
The USS Vicksburg’s SSRA contained 99 work items, of which 92 items formed the base work package and 7 items are designated as options. Work will involve ship repair, and modernization.
If all options are exercised, the value of this contract could be brought to $45.9 million. The SSRA is expected to be completed by September 2017.
The USS Vicksburg is a Mark-41 VLS variant cruiser commissioned on November 12, 1992. The ship was named for both the Battle of Vicksburg, fought during the American Civil War, and the city of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
