U.S. Navy’s Singapore-based littoral combat ship USS Coronado (LCS 4) arrived in Brunei for the first scheduled port visit on its deployment on February 16.
While in port Coronado will host multiple ship tours and put the embarked MH-60S Seahawk helicopter and MQ-8B Fire Scout unmanned helicopter on display.
Sailors will also have the opportunity to participate in a sports day with members of the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and experience the culture and sites of Brunei while on liberty.
“We are honored to visit Brunei and enhance mutual cooperation with a key maritime partner,” said Cmdr. Scott Larson, commanding officer, USS Coronado. “This is a great opportunity for our sailors to engage with counterparts from the RBN while also experiencing the local culture.”
Currently on a rotational deployment to the Indo-Asia-Pacific, Coronado is an Austal-built Independence-variant littoral combat ship that boasts a larger flight deck than the Freedom variant, allowing for expanded aviation operations with regional navies, and has more fuel capacity providing increased operational capabilities.
