The Indian Navy’s guided missile frigate INS Ganga sailed under her own power one last time on May 27 as she entered the Mumbai harbor ahead of decommissioning.

On May 28, Ganga was placed in the non-operational category and will likely be decommissioned before the end of the year, the Indian Navy said.

INS Ganga is the second of three Godavari-class frigates and is being decommissioned after 32 years of service.

The lead ship in the class was decommissioned in December 2015 and INS Ganga and INS Gomati are scheduled for decommissioning.

INS Ganga sailed into Mumbai as an operational ship returning from a 45-day active patrol in the Arabian Sea under command of Captain NP Pradeep.
