The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Porter (DDG 78) departed the Black Sea, Sept. 1, after conducting maritime security operations and theater security engagements with allies and partners.
“Our time in the Black Sea provided the opportunity to continue working closely with NATO allies and partners. We’re building strong relationships here, which are crucial to peace and stability in the region. Our presence here bolsters confidence and reassures allies of our commitment to security in the Black Sea” , said Cmdr. John Tobin, commanding officer, USS Porter .
USS Porter entered the Black Sea, Aug. 18, to demonstrate the U.S. commitment to the collective security of its NATO allies and partners as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied, joint and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
