The US Navy confirmed on October 2 that a T-45C Goshawk training jet crashed in East Tennessee on Sunday.

Neither the instructor nor the student survived the incident.

The navy is still to determine the exact cause of the accident but the crash follows a T-45C operational pause and comes a month after the navy lifted flight restrictions previously placed on the aircraft due to physiological episodes experienced by pilots.

Reports say that the crash left a half mile long debris line in rough terrain in the Cherokee National Forest near Tellico Plains in Tennessee.

The T-45 belonged to Training Air Wing ONE, based at Naval Air Station (NAS) Meridian, Mississippi.
