US Navy’s Virginia-class attack submarine USS Mississippi (SSN 782) pulled into Fleet Activities Yokosuka on January 22, for her second visit to the city during her deployment to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Mississippi is visiting Yokosuka after two months at sea.
“It is great to be back in Yokosuka,” Cmdr. Eric J. Rozek, commanding officer USS Mississippi commented.
This is USS Mississippi’s second operational deployment after entering service in June 2012. The Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam-based boat completed her maiden deployment in September 2016 returning from the Western Pacific.
In addition to Yokosuka, Mississippi also made a port call at Jeju-do, Republic of Korea, on November 22, 2017, becoming the first US submarine to visit South Korea’s Jeju Island.
