Russian shipbuilder Pella has launched the Project 22800 second serial missile corvette Shkval.
The launching ceremony took place at Pella’s new shipbuilding complex on May 5, 2018.
With a length of 67 meters and a width of 11 meters, the fast attack craft was designed to combat operations in the near sea zone, fulfilling both military and humanitarian tasks.
The 800-ton ship can reach a speed of up to 30 knots and has a cruising range of 2,500 nautical miles.
Project 22800 corvettes were designed by Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. They are armed with Kalibr cruise missiles, a 76.2 mm AK-176MA naval gun, two 30 mm cannons and a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun.
The Project 22800 Karakurt-class corvettes are being built in order to renew the Russian Navy’s fleet. The project encompasses a total of eighteen corvettes ordered or planned to be ordered from several shipyards in Russia.
