US Navy aircraft carrier USS Harry S Truman arrived in Lisbon, Portugal, for a port visit on November 10, after completing its participation in NATO exercise Trident Juncture.

The carrier dropped anchor in Portugal after over a month of operations in the North Atlantic and becoming the first US carrier to operate in Arctic Circle in 27 years .

The visit of the US Navy aircraft carrier to Portugal overlapped with a visit of Russian Navy ships to Ceuta, Spain, where they stopped on the return leg of their Syrian deployment.

Sava-class cruiser Marshall Ustinov, accompanied by two tugs, entered Ceuta on November 9 for a refueling stop before transiting the English Channel en route to its Northern Fleet homeport in Severomorsk.

While in Portugal, USS Harry S. Truman is scheduled to participate in several community outreach events and host a formal reception in the ship’s hangar bay to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day.

“We are honored to visit and enjoy the friendship and support of a country with such a proud history, and which so wholeheartedly contributes to the NATO alliance,” said Commander, Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, Rear Adm. Gene Black. “As we commemorate the end of the First World War together, we look forward to continuing our tradition of partnership which has stood strong for over 100 years.”

Harry S. Truman is currently on a deployment to the US Sixth Fleet area of operations .
