French shipbuilding major Naval Group has signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Norwegian defense company Kongsberg to support capabilities in the defense sector.

As disclosed, the agreement revolves around four main areas: development, production, support and shared marketing in the international market.

Specifically, the partnership will entail ten subtopics, such as maintenance of frigates, with a full life support, Vanguard system, drones, and man-unmanned teaming (MUM-T), counter-drone solutions, strike missiles, naval cyber, combat system, naval collaborative combat, and more.

The discussions between the two firms have been ongoing for almost two years. Both Naval Group and Kongsberg plan to share their knowledge on technologies, innovate through defense domains driven by new threats and new operational capabilities.

The agreement is expected to generate new market opportunities benefiting Kongsberg and Norwegian industrial partners and enhance an already long-term strategic partnership between Norway and France.

“We are very honoured to sign this major agreement with KONGSBERG. This very substantial partnership will allow both of us to share knowledge in defence and naval combat, in a very extensive way,” said Pierre Éric Pommellet , Naval Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

“We look forward to exchanging our knowledge and skills with Naval Group. This partnership reflects two leading companies joining forces to create the best products within the defence industry in the future. The agreement signals a shared commitment to national security, NATO cooperation and an integrated European defence,” Geir Håøy , President and CEO of Kongsberg, added.

The partnership agreement also reflects Naval Group’s intent to become a key supplier to the Royal Norwegian Navy.

As such, the outcomes of this partnership could support future requirements and long-term national priorities.
