As disclosed, the shipyard participated in the competitive bidding process and has been declared the lowest bidder (L1). GRSE expects that it will be awarded the contract to build five corvettes, while the value of the deal is estimated at approximately $3 billion (₹25,000 crore).

The upcoming corvettes are designed to carry out a range of naval operations, including surface-to-surface missile (SSM) strikes, anti-missile defense, anti-submarine warfare (ASW), and other maritime missions.

The vessels will feature energy-efficient systems and environmentally sustainable technologies.

To date, GRSE has delivered 111 warships to Indian maritime forces and allied nations. This includes six missile corvettes (Khukri and Kora classes) and four ASW corvettes (Kamorta class).

The shipyard is currently working on several projects for the Indian Navy: four next-generation offshore patrol vessels (NGOPVs), three advanced guided missile frigates, eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft—one of which has already been delivered—and four large survey vessels, two of which have been handed over.
