The Russian Navy has launched the latest Project 11711 landing ship, Vladimir Andreyev.

As disclosed, the launching ceremony took place at Yantar Shipyard, a division under Russia’s state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), on May 30, 2025.

The large landing ship of Project 17111 is designed to transport marine landing troops and military equipment. A ship-based multi-purpose or transport-combat helicopter can be based on the deck.

According to the USC, these are the largest ships by displacement built for the navy in modern Russia.

Currently, the Russian Navy has two Project 11711 large landing ships, built at the Yantar USC shipyard – the Ivan Gren and the Petr Morgunov. Yantar USC is building one more ship, Vasily Trushin.

In his opening remarks, Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Alexander Moiseyev noted that the construction of the large landing ship took into account the earlier experience of operating ships of the series, which have confirmed their high seaworthiness and combat characteristics by thousands of nautical miles.

“As the Commander-in-Chief said, during its construction we took into account all previous projects and made the necessary changes. Its landing capacity has been increased, the operating conditions have been extended, it is designed for modern use in the current situation. I can say that the Navy flag will be raised on it next year,” Ilya Samarin , General Director of Yantar shipyard, said.

Ivan Gren is the lead ship of a new class of Russian Navy landing ships built to replace the old Project 1171 Alligator-class LSTs. Project 11711 ships displace between 5,000 and 6,000 tons and carry up to 13 main battle tanks or 36 armored personnel carriers.
