Germany-based defense technology company Euroatlas has partnered with compatriot automotive and arms manufacturer Rheinmetall to deliver next-generation autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) for coastal defense.
As part of the collaboration, Euroatlas’s advanced GREYSHARK autonomous underwater vehicle will be integrated into Rheinmetall Battlesuite—an AI-enabled, modular digital command platform designed to manage complex, multi-domain operations. The two companies aim to enhance Europe’s coastal security infrastructure through intelligent systems integration.
Designed for long-range, high-endurance missions, GREYSHARK features a 17-sensor suite that continuously collects mission-critical underwater data. Its modular AI software stack, developed with EvoLogics, supports a range of tasks from undersea cable monitoring to littoral surveillance.
Its wide range of mission profiles includes intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), mine countermeasures (MCM), and other critical underwater operations.
The integration of GREYSHARK into Battlesuite will support selected coastal defence scenarios, with the digital platform acting as the backbone for Rheinmetall’s system-of-systems approach to maritime operations, according to the partners.
This partnership underscores a shared commitment to strengthening digital sovereignty, accelerating domestically anchored innovation, and advancing Europe’s autonomous underwater capabilities for both military and civilian applications.
Furthermore, the companies plan to co-develop tailored variants of GREYSHARK to meet specific operational requirements within Rheinmetall’s defence ecosystem.

At the beginning of this year, Rheinmetall received a contract to supply training simulators to the German Navy. The systems will be established in Wilhelmshaven, Rostock-Warnemünde, Bremerhaven, Eckernförde, Kiel, and Nordholz.
