GSL splashes sixth fast patrol vessel for Indian Coast Guard

Indian shipbuilder Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has launched ICGS Atal (Yard 1275), the sixth in a series of eight indigenously designed fast patrol vessels (FPVs) being constructed for the Indian Coast Guard.

As disclosed, the launching ceremony took place at the shipyard in Vasco-da-Gama today, on July 29, 2025.

The vessel was ceremoniously launched by Smt. Shilpa Agarwal, in the presence of Shri Rozy Agarwal, IDAS, Principal Integrated Financial Advisor (PIFA), Coast Guard Headquarters. Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman & Managing Director, GSL, said that the launch of ICGS Atal was yet another milestone in teh journey journey toward a self-reliant India.

“This vessel reflects the indomitable spirit of Team GSL and its unwavering commitment to indigenisation, innovation, and excellence in shipbuilding, even amidst global supply chain challenges,” he stated.

The FPVs, designed in-house at GSL, are 52 meters in length, with an 8-meter beam and 320-ton displacement. The high-speed ships are equipped to conduct coastal patrols, island security missions, and offshore asset protection.

Last month, the fifth fast patrol vessel in this class was floated out at GSL. To remind, back in 2022, India signed the construction contract for the vessels with GSL. The value of the deal is Rs 473 crore ($62.1 million).
