The company signed the deal through the Foreign Comparative Testing program. Specifically, it will deliver Cube mission modules and Cube system remote-operated twistlocks for integration into the icebreaker.

This agreement marks an important milestone in bringing Danish modular defence innovation to the US maritime domain. The Cube system enables rapid capability upgrades and flexible mission configurations.

“We thank the US Coast Guard for their trust in our solutions and look forward to supporting their mission with flexible and future-proof capabilities,” the company stated.

The motor vessel Aiviq, acquired in 2024 from an Edison Chouest Offshore subsidiary, was renamed Storis after modifications were made to enhance communications and self-defense capabilities. The vessel departed on its maiden voyage in June this year.

The Cube, with a wide catalog of up to 350 different modules,  is a plug-and-play mission module for air, surface, and subsea domains. It runs from a Cube Ready platform (vessel). It has the infrastructure to handle and move mission modules on deck, inside the hanga,r or replace existing modules in the mission bay.

All modules use the footprint of shipping containers and are loaded into the side of platforms with mission bays.

In 2023, SH Defence teamed up with Spanish shipbuilder Navantia to explore the development of the Cube.
