The Commonwealth of Australia has accepted delivery of the 23rd Guardian-class patrol boat constructed by Austal under the Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Program (SEA3036-1).
Designed and constructed in Henderson, Western Australia, the vessel will be transferred to the Republic of the Marshall Islands as part of the Australian Government’s Pacific Maritime Security Program. Once in service, it will enhance the country’s ability to protect its maritime domain, enforce sovereignty, and contribute to cooperative security efforts across the Pacific.
The Guardian-class Patrol Boats are a cornerstone of Australia’s long-term commitment to its Pacific partners, providing modern, capable platforms tailored for patrol, surveillance, and law enforcement tasks in challenging maritime environments.
The delivery reflects the combined efforts of industry, government, and defense partners.
This month, Austal also launched the final Guardian-class patrol boat contracted under the program. The Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project (SEA 3036-1) was awarded to Austal Australia in May 2016, with follow-on contract options exercised in April 2018, November 2022, and June 2024. These awards expanded the program to a total of 24 vessels, with a combined value exceeding A$400 million.
The boat measures 39.5 meters in length, with an 8-meter beam and a fully loaded draft of 2.5 meters. The vessel can reach speeds of up to 20 knots and has a range of approximately 3,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Each platform is crewed to accommodate up to 23 personnel.
