The US State Department has formally approved a potential foreign military sale (FMS) to Spain, authorizing the modernization of five Spanish Álvaro de Bazán-class ( F-100) frigates at an estimated cost of $1.7 billion.
Under the deal, Spain is expected to acquire five AEGIS weapon system shipsets, six digital signal processor shipsets, five MK 41 baseline VIII vertical launching systems, and five next-generation surface search radar shipsets.
