The vessel, named Taepyeongyang 21, was launched at the company’s shipyard in Ulsan. Measuring approximately 117 meters in length and capable of reaching speeds of up to 28 knots, the ship is designed to support a broad spectrum of operations.

According to the shipbuilder, the patrol vessel will be deployed across missions including maritime law enforcement, search and rescue, and the protection of national waters. Its design reflects a growing emphasis on multi-role capabilities, enabling coast guard forces to respond more effectively to both routine and high-risk scenarios at sea.

The vessel is also equipped with high-speed boats and advanced onboard systems intended to improve operational flexibility and rapid response, particularly in complex maritime environments where speed and coordination are critical.

The launch underscores HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ continued role in supplying tailored patrol platforms to meet evolving operational requirements. For the Korea Coast Guard, the addition of Taepyeongyang 21 is expected to strengthen its capacity to safeguard maritime sovereignty and ensure safety across busy regional waters.

While no delivery timeline was disclosed, the program highlights ongoing investment in next-generation coast guard assets amid rising demands on maritime security forces worldwide.
