US forces intercepted Iranian missiles, drones, and small boats during a transit through the Strait of Hormuz on May 7, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed.
The incident occurred as the guided-missile destroyers USS Truxtun (DDG 103), USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115) and USS Mason (DDG 87) were moving through the international waterway toward the Gulf of Oman.
CENTCOM said Iranian forces launched multiple attacks involving missiles, drones and fast-moving small boats. No US ships or personnel were hit during the engagement, it was highlighted.
According to the command, US forces intercepted the inbound threats before carrying out strikes against Iranian military sites linked to the attack.
The targets included missile and drone launch positions, command and control facilities, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance nodes.
Earlier on, CENTCOM reported that its team enforced blockade measures by disabling an Iranian-flagged unladen oil tanker attempting to sail toward an Iranian port.
Observed Hasna as it transited international waters en route to an Iranian port on the Gulf of Oman. American forces issued multiple warnings and informed the Iranian-flagged vessel that it was in violation of the US blockade.
After Hasna’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings, US Navy disabled the tanker’s rudder by firing several rounds from the 20mm cannon gun of a F/A-18 Super Hornet launched from aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Hasna is no longer transiting to Iran, CENTCOM revealed.
As of May 6, 52 commercial vessels have been directed to turn around or return to port in order to comply.
