BAE Systems secures 40Mk4 naval gun order from Brazilian Navy

BAE Systems has received a contract to supply two Bofors 40Mk4 naval gun systems for the Brazilian Navy, as part of the Patrol Vessel Construction Project (PRONAPA).

The contract will provide the Brazilian Navy with the latest generation of the Bofors 40 mm weapon system, designed for air defense, anti-drone, anti-surface warfare, and land-target engagement missions.

Brazil already operates dozens of Bofors 40 mm guns, and the new system will build on the country’s existing experience with the weapon family.

The Bofors 40Mk4 is a compact naval gun system developed for modern surface combat operations, combining rapid response capabilities with the ability to engage a wide range of threats. The system can rapidly change between different ammunition types, enabling operators to counter air, sea, and land targets.

The weapon is integrated with Bofors 3P programmable ammunition, which can be configured in six different function modes to optimize effects against different target types. According to BAE Systems, the combination of the 40Mk4 gun system and advanced ammunition technology provides a flexible solution for both conventional and emerging maritime threats.
