US Navy awards contract for mid-range maritime strike missile

The US Navy has selected CoAspire’s rapidly adaptable affordable cruise missile-extended range (RAACM-ER) ground-launched variant for its new Coalition Heterogeneous Affordable Offensive Strike (CHAOS) program.

The agreement, issued through CMG Networks on behalf of the Naval Aviation Systems Consortium, will see CoAspire design, develop, test and deliver a mid-range, ground-launched cruise missile system to the Program Executive Office for Munitions and its PMX-201 program office.

Under the CHAOS initiative, CoAspire will adapt its RAACM-ER cruise missile into a surface-launched configuration capable of engaging both land-based and moving maritime targets. The system combines the RAACM-ER missile with a booster and launcher architecture to provide a mobile strike capability intended for US allies and coalition partners.

The program is focused on developing an affordable maritime strike weapon that can be produced at scale, addressing growing demand among partner nations for cost-effective long-range precision strike capabilities.

CoAspire’s CHAOS solution builds on technology developed for the company’s RAACM family of cruise missiles, which includes variants designed for air, surface and ground launch applications.

The RAACM-ER uses additive manufacturing techniques to increase payload capacity, accelerate design modifications and reduce manufacturing costs compared with traditional missile production methods.

According to CoAspire, the manufacturing approach enables faster development of new missile variants, allowing design changes to be implemented in months rather than years while reducing tooling requirements and production disruptions.

CoAspire’s RAACM-ER ground-launched variant is also aligned with the company’s RAACM-ER GHOST configuration developed for the Low-Cost Containerized Munition (LCCM) program funded by the US Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering and the US Army Program Executive Office for Fires.

The selection comes as the US military and allied nations continue to prioritize the development of distributed, lower-cost precision strike systems designed to increase magazine depth and strengthen deterrence capabilities.
