Lockheed Martin has secured a US Army contract worth up to $1.2 billion to produce the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) Increment 2, following a second flight test that demonstrated the missile’s ability to engage moving maritime targets.
The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract covers initial procurement, follow-on production and continued development of PrSM Increment 2.
The missile completed its first flight test in March and a second test in August, with the latter generating data on the missile’s flight, launch from a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), deployment of protective covers and engagement of a target.
PrSM Increment 2 is equipped with a multimode seeker designed to allow the missile to engage moving land and maritime targets, expanding the US Army’s long-range precision-strike capabilities.
The August test marked the second maritime-related test of the missile, according to Lockheed Martin.
The company said additional PrSM Increment 2 flight tests are scheduled for 2027, while production of the initial missiles will begin under the new contract.
Lockheed Martin is also expanding its PrSM production capacity, with the company stating that it plans to quadruple production while continuing development of additional PrSM variants.
The PrSM is designed as a long-range precision-strike missile for the US Army and is launched from systems including HIMARS.
