Baykar Technologies’ Bayraktar TB3 unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) has demonstrated a new anti-submarine warfare capability by launching two sonobuoys during Turkey’s Seawolf-I/2026 exercise.
The test was conducted from the Turkish Navy’s drone carrier TCG Anadolu in the Eastern Mediterranean on September 22, with the TB3 using Baykar’s sonobuoy dispenser system (SAS POD) carried under its wing.
During the exercise scenario, the TB3 operated alongside a maritime patrol aircraft conducting anti-submarine warfare missions. The UCAV released two sonobuoys and processed underwater data collected from both its own sonobuoys and those deployed by the maritime patrol aircraft.
Baykar said the TB3 used an onboard sonobuoy processing unit to process the data and provide a real-time display of the acquired underwater information during the exercise.
The Seawolf-I/2026 exercise is being conducted from September 20 to 25 across the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, Aegean Sea and Eastern Mediterranean, with participation from Turkey’s Naval, Land, Air and Coast Guard commands.
The demonstration adds an anti-submarine warfare function to the TB3, which is designed for operations from short-runway naval platforms such as TCG Anadolu.
Last year, the UAV launched an AI-based mini cruise missile, Kemankes 1, and destroyed airborne targets with pinpoint accuracy.
