The Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) has held a launch ceremony for the second Batch-II KSS-III diesel-electric submarine.
The launching ceremony was held on November 3 at Hanwha Ocean's Geoje Okpo Shipyard, with the Republic of Korea Navy and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) jointly organizing the event.
ROKS Seo Hui is the second vessel of the Batch-II class. It features improvements in detection and strike capabilities, stealth, and survivability compared with the existing Dosan Ahn Changho-class submarines. The vessel is approximately 89 metres long and has a displacement of approximately 3,600 tonnes. Delivery to the ROKN is scheduled for 2028 following sea trials.
According to the navy, the unit incorporates 70 types of domestically developed equipment, reflecting South Korea's efforts to increase the domestic content of its naval platforms and onboard systems.
This program is South Korea's indigenous submarine development program, with the Batch-II variant incorporating upgrades over the earlier Batch-I vessels. The launch marks the next construction milestone for Seohee ahead of its subsequent outfitting, testing, and eventual delivery to the Navy.
